Micius the World's First Quantum Satellite
China launched the world's first quantum communications satellite from the GobiDesert early on August 16. It is named "Micius", after a fifth-century BC Chinese scientist.
What's Micius for? One of the important scientific objectives of Micius is the high-speed quantum key distribution between the satellite and the ground, which can be used to wide area quantum key networkexperiment to achieve a major breakthrough in the space of practical quantum communication.
Micius is the start of making science to technology. But, in the long term, it needs long-term efforts to achieve global quantum communication, especially needs for a number of satellite networks.
This is a long journey, we need to keep trying.
